VIRYA WAS FOUNDED BY OUR LEAD DESIGNER PYONE THET THET KYAW. SHE LEARNT THE SEWING AND DRESS MAKING SKILLS FROM HER GRANDMOTHER SINCE EARLY TEEN AND SHE HAS KEPT THAT SARTORIAL HERITAGE AND BEEN PASSIONATE ABOUT DRESSMAKING AND DESIGNING.
MOREOVER, SHE ALSO WORKED IN GARMENT FACTORIES AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. SHE WITNESSED THE UNFAIR CONDITIONS THAT THE GARMENT WORKERS, MOSTLY YOUNG GIRLS, HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH. SHE WAS DETERMINED SINCE THEN TO BUILD AN ALTERNATIVE MODEL FROM THOSE SWEAT SHOPS - A CONSCIENTIOUS CLOTHING BRAND WHICH HAS NOW BECOME VIRYA MYANMAR.
As a central part of our journey to achieving ethical fashion, We offer training, coaching and mentoring for (all of) our staff, (who are) young girls and women from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. We train them not only in tailoring, fashion and design, but also share our experience and knowledge of team working, entrepreneurial skills, building customer relationships, communication and presentation skills, and so on.
When young girls have vocational skills, they can be independent and feel confident living their life to the fullest. The training is designed to prepare and equip our staff for future quality employment, or even empower them to launch their own businesses. We hope that our training brings hope and turns these young girls and women’s dreams into reality.
