Sum Tu Pride
Transfusion of traditional culture through community weaving

Sum Tu Pride

Sum Tu people mostly reside in Minbya Township in the western Rakhine province in Myanmar. The richness in culture and language of this indigenous group was almost forgotten until recently but have been revived by this passionate woman named Mai Ni Ni Aung who herself is a Sum Tu tribe member. The traditions of Sum Tu have been passed down through the generations orally. The old Sum Tu ladies memorize the traditional weaving patterns for several years and the young ones learn from their ancestors.

Our beautiful luxury collection are created by the combination of the art crafted by the Sum Tu women and Virya’s talented designers and seamstresses.
